In K-6C, part of our Science and Technology program is the completion of weekly cooking lessons in our fabulous school kitchen. These cooking lessons not only teach us valuable life skills that we need to become self-sufficient, independent members of the community when we are older, but also give us the opportunity to talk about healthy food choices, proper food handling and kitchen safety procedures that keep us safe as well as well fed!
When we have finished cooking our meal, we sit together as a class, share what we have cooked and discuss foods we like/dislike and appropriate eating behaviours.
Like many of our learning experiences in K06C, cooking lessons are a lot of fun, but also give us the opportunity to learn new skills.
Our school lies on the historic meeting grounds of three proud Aboriginal Nations - the Awabakal, the Darkinjung and the Wonnarua. We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
